Available Summer Camps at YHA Okehampton Bracken Tor
From the east: leave the A30 at Okehampton junction and follow the road for about one mile into the town. At the third set of traffic lights, on a crossroads junction, turn left following the signs to Okehampton Station and Youth Hostel. After 200m, take the third turning right up Station Road. Follow this road, passing over the railway bridge and A30. There is a small turning on the right after the dual carriageway, which leads to an unmade road to YHA Okehampton Bracken Tor.
Don’t use the postcode for GPS Sat Nav as it may try to take you up an access road for emergency vehicles only. Set your Sat Nav for Okehampton town centre and once there, use the postcode.
It is possible for parents to get to Okehampton via public transport:
On Sundays there is a scheduled train service with direct links to Okehampton Station during the summer camp period. On weekdays the scheduled train service goes to Exeter St Davids. From Exeter Station take X9/510 bus service to Okehampton town centre and then follow the directions above to the hostel.
YHA Okehampton Bracken Tor sits within 4 acres of woodland and is comprised of two separate buildings with a total of 15 bedrooms/66 beds. Bedrooms vary in size and most are en-suite.
The rural retreat boasts a licensed activity centre complete with archery range, high ropes course, bushcraft area with campfire, a round house shelter, mountain boarding course, beach volleyball court, grassy area for team games and a tuck shop.
Nestled above the town on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park, this former hunting lodge is ideally positioned for awesome adventure holidays away from it all. In addition to the site’s fantastic facilities, the venue enjoys direct access to the high moorland of Dartmoor, surrounding woodland and the Granite Way Cycle Path.
The YHA Okehampton Bracken Tor complex features an Arts and Crafts style building – this is Bracken Tor House – and the extended former waterworks building know as Bracken Tor Lodge.
Adventure Okehampton runs the site and has been delivering adventure activities in partnership with YHA (England & Wales) for almost 20 years. Currently, Adventure Okehampton provides over 15,000 young people per year with the opportunity to explore their limits, build their confidence and experience Dartmoor’s wilderness.
